Nearly 160 years ago, a group of kidnapped Africans aboard the Spanish slave ship La Amistad, led by the charismatic leader Cinque and his companions, revolted and tried to set sail for home. Captured and imprisoned, their case eventually reached the U.S. Supreme Court, where John Quincy Adams argued for their freedom. Amistad portrays the dignity and agony of these courageous Africans and their cry for freedom, which is still being echoed by many in our times.
