Listed below are suggestions for additional project possibilities. In parentheses following each project are the classes and quarters the project would be appropriate for. Note that many of these projects would also work well for state history, if you live in the appropriate state. The projects are often fleeting in nature, e.g., television shows about to air or projects related to current events.

Each time this page is updated a date will head the new additions. Feel free to use any of the projects though.

All television programs are from PBS. Because PBS stations vary across the country, you may not be able to see a show listed here. Check your local listings for times and availability. Some shows are older, and you may be able to get them in video or DVD format from your library. If your PBS station is showing something not listed here that you believe would work well for a history project, contact your evaluator for permission. (Note, we have come to the conclusion that many of the shows on The History Channel are too sensationalistic and often weak or even faulty in their historical content, that is why we are not approving them as projects.)

September, 2005:

Current events: Listen to or watch the Senate confirmation hearings of Judge Roberts. Write a two page report. (Fouth quarter U.S. History, fourth quarter Honors U.S. History, either quarter of American Government)

American Experience: The Hurricane of '38 - This film examines one of the most devastating natural disasters this country has seen. Watch the show and write a two-page summary for one project. April, 2005:

The Life and Times of Frida Kahlo - A biography of one of Mexico's most important painters. Watch the show and write a two-page summary for one project. (Fourth quarter world history, fourth quarter honors modern world history, fourth quarter art history.)

American Experience: Partners of the Heart - A fascinating story in modern medicine. Watch the show and write a two-page summary for one project. (Fourth quarter world history, fourth quarter honors modern world history, fourth quarter American history, fourth quarter honors American history.)

Lawrence of Arabia: The Battle for the Arab World - Watch the show and write a two-page summary for one project. (Fourth quarter world history, fourth quarter honors modern world history)

Slavery and the Making of America - This is a four-part series. Watch any one part and write a two-page summary for one project. (Part one: first quarter US or Honors US history; Parts two and and three: second quarter US or Honors US history; Part four: third quarter US or Honors US history.)

Rediscovering George Washington - This is an hour and a half program. Watch the show and write a two-page summary for one project. (First quarter US or Honors US history.)
