High School Science (Grades 9-12)
Most students entering 9th grade take either physical science or biology. If you have covered science thoroughly in the junior high years, your student is probably ready for our biology class in grade 9. If, however, you have not emphasized science in the junior high years and/or your student is not adept in science or does not like it, physical science is probably a better choice for freshman year. Advanced courses all have prerequisites. All our science courses come from Apologia Publishers, except the Saxon physics course.
This course is largely earth science and an introduction to physics. For a complete list of topics, see the description of the text in our Books and Materials section. Students take four chapter tests and one quarter-end Hewitt test, and complete several labs each quarter. Requires some pre-algebra knowledge. Students who struggle with science should order the Basic Physical Science syllabus; fewer labs are required and the quarter-end tests are easier. Grades 8-9

For a list of topics, see the description of the text in our Books and Materials section. Students take four chapter tests and one quarter-end Hewitt test, and complete several labs each quarter. Requires some algebra knowledge. An optional lab kit is available from Apologia. We strongly recommend the lab kit, but if price makes it prohibitive, our syllabus offers replacement projects. Saxon Physics
Covers all topics normally presented in the first two semesters of an engineering physics course using the incremental development method. Ideal for pre-med students or for an advanced placement in physics course. This text is much more math intensive and less hands-on than the Apologia physics course listed above. Grades 11-12
Texts:
This course covers the anatomy and physiology of the human body's 11 organ systems in detail. Microscope and dissection labs are recommended as well as coloring-book exercises (additional book). Students take four chapter tests and complete labs each quarter. Prerequisites: first-year biology and first-year chemistry. Grades 11-12
