NEW - Lightning Literature Courses Graded Via Email

For the second year we are offering electronic grading for all Lightning Literature courses, whether your student is enrolled full time or for a single course. Students submit each paper as it is finished. Within two weeks the evaluator will return the paper, with comments and corrections, via email. At the end of the quarter a grade will be issued. This is only available for our Lightning Literature courses, and the cost is $75.00 above your standard enrollment fees.

Lightning Literature and Composition

I'm using the Lightning Lit guides for the first time this year, with my 9th grade son (who loves to read but hates to write). I must say, that Ms. Kamath has done a smashing job in setting up these guides, in my opinion. There is such valuable information on how to come up with ideas for writing a paper, and putting it into outline form, that these simple suggestions have made writing something that my son no longer abhors. We are doing the Basic English, so he is not overwhelmed, in the least bit, with his writing. So far, we have been very happy with the guide we are using and I would say that Elizabeth Kamath is quite in touch with what a student (and parent) needs in the form of a reading/writing program...so hats off to her!!! Hewitt Home-schooling is proud to offer our own line of English courses - Lightning Literature and Composition. These courses use a combination of novels, short stories, poems, plays, and nonfiction to teach an understanding of and appreciation for literature and strong writing skills. The high-school levels consist of a guide containing shorter pieces (poems, short stories, essays) and lessons combined with four book-length works which must be purchased separately. (Hewitt also carries these books.)

We designed these courses to be one semester (two quarters) long for most students. If you are not enrolling in Hewitt, you may complete the courses at your own pace. Students enrolled with Hewitt must order one of three syllabi. We offer a standard (college prep) English syllabus for grades 9 - 12 which is appropriate for most students, a Basic English 9 - 12 syllabus for students who have difficulties reading or writing and need more grammar work, and an Honors English 9 - 12 syllabus. Here is an overview of the courses and the books required:

Standard (College Prep) English 9 - 12

This class uses two Lightning Literature packs of your choice. Students read eight books and eight shorter works over the course of a year and write papers based on these readings and their accompanying lessons. In grades 10 - 12 students also write a year-long research paper. Vocabulary work is also required. Order:
