"My adventure with Hewitt began in the wake of much confusion and turbulent indecision. After being homeschooled through elementary school, I had attended public school in junior high and had been dissatisfied with what I saw as deficiencies in the academic and social spheres. I struggled with the idea of returning to homeschool for several months, with the help of my family, before deciding that it was something I wanted to do.
"After we had decided to try high school at home, we had to find a good curriculum. We were concerned about colleges, and how they would react to the different curriculums and programs we explored. We finally chose Hewitt, because we felt that colleges might give more credibility to grades given by an impartial evaluator than by those administered by a parent.
"I am thankful that we chose Hewitt. The education I have received has been excellent. I have learned so much, not only through textbooks, but also through interaction with the Hewitt staff. The staff has always been willing to adapt to our needs. The evaluators are superior. My evaluator has been an indispensable resource to my growth as a writer.
"Colleges have been equally impressed with the education I received through Hewitt. I applied to five prestigious schools and was accepted into all of them. In addition, I have received scholarship offers from these schools amounting to more than $200,000 over four years. Clearly, these colleges and universities saw the education I received through Hewitt as desirable.
"In view of the education I have received, and the respect it has been shown by colleges, I heartily recommend the Hewitt School. Its able staff and curriculum will stimulate your mind and challenge you to fulfill your academic potential. It certainly did mine." --Kevin Darby, Class of 2006
"This semester at Liberty University has been going great so far! I'm maintaining A's and one B; that should be easy to bring up because I have been doing extra credit. There haven't been any hard transitions between homeschooling and university. Thanks to my amazing [Hewitt] counselor I felt extremely prepared." --Liberty Egloff
"The set up at Hewitt Homeschooling taught me self-discipline and self-reliance. Being responsible for completing and sending in my school work within the course of a year made me realize the importance of managing my time and balancing the activities I wanted to do with the schoolwork I needed to do. I couldn't have had a better preparation for Liberty University's Distance Learning Program.
"Academically, I have not had to struggle to comprehend the course material or complete course assignments because Hewitt Homeschooling classes so closely mimic the set-up and intensity of college level work. I took a three-year-break from schooling after high school to work and plan for my future. It's a testimony to the quality of Hewitt Homeschooling that even with three years of no school work whatsoever, I was still able to easily transition into college while keeping my part-time job. I'm enjoying my classes and interactions with my professors and classmates. Corresponding with them is very similar to the way I worked with Hewitt's advisors - it was one more thing that I didn't have to spend time learning when I began my classes. It enabled me to concentrate more fully on the academics.
"I really appreciate the Biblical and scholastic foundation that Hewitt gave me. The Hewitt Homeschooling program was a natural springboard to bigger challenges and I'm grateful for it." --Sarah Morbitzer, freshman at Liberty University's Distance Learning Program
"I strongly recommend that you "go all the way" with Hewitt. It is worth every penny & then some! Stephanie's evaluator exceeded any and all of my and my husband's expectations. Stephanie is finishing up her first year in the local community college with a 4.0 average. . . . You know the lessons are well worth it when years later, the student continues to learn and accomplish from them and with an even greater excitement." --Clare Richter
"It has been a wonderful school year! I need to let you know what a positive experience Kirsten has had with Hewitt this year. She was so encouraged after the mid-year evaluation, that I actually caught her writing on her own - for the fun of it! She has also increased in confidence. Thank you!" --Joy Seeberger
Thank you so much for all you do. Hewitt has made a huge difference in our homeschooling journey with our (10th grade) son. He is much more responsible and independent, and I feel much more confident in knowing that he is being graded by an outside evaluator who is giving him an unbiased, professional critique. -- Kim Stark
"I am so glad Lukas was enrolled with Hewitt this year. It has fully lived up to our expectations both his and mine. At the beginning of the year, Lukas would struggle with his writing assignments. Now they flow so easily. He loves to write. Sometimes he sits down and writes an opinion paper simply because he wants to say something not for school, just for fun. He has learned the power of the pen. For a 15-year-old, this is a good lesson. When he is able to express himself on paper it helps in all other areas of life.
"This fall marks 20 years since we began teaching our children at home. Our eldest daughter is now in a little village in Siberia teaching English. Our second daughter graduated from Bible College and is married to a pastor. Our son, Jake, is involved in a 5-year program at Piedmont Baptist College in NC. He is majoring in Missionary Aviation and is looking forward to providing support to missionaries in the Marshall Islands. Lukas is the fourth child who will have been touched by Hewitt. We started our educational experience with Hewitt 20 years ago, and after looking at many different programs, we returned to Hewitt.
"We have always prayed that our children would make a difference, not for themselves, but for our Lord. The fine curriculum and support of your program have been some of the components that have helped to accomplish that.
"Thanking the Lord for all of you." Kathy Becker
My two-year experience with Hewitt Homeschooling Resources has been entirely positive. Their syllabi are plainly laid out and organized, and my counselors were always helpful and encouraging. I believe that Hewitt's high-school program is very well rounded and competitive. It is accommodating to different interests and learning techniques, allowing students to develop their specific personalities while getting a top-of-the-line education. I feel confident that I can succeed at a high level of learning because of the strong academic and spritual foundation Hewitt has set me on. It has been extremely helpful to me, and I would recommend this program to any homeschooler, regardless of background. Thanks Hewitt!Aislinn Agnew
When we began investigating curricula for high school, we were very specific in what we wanted. We desired a Christian curriculum that challenged our children. We wanted traditional subjects that offered more than "read the book and answer questions. Hewitt gave us that and more. Our three oldest sons, 1999 Hewitt graduates, have all achieved the Dean's List their first semester at college. We plan on all our younger children enrolling Hewitt as they enter their high school years." Dale Hetzel
"I can't tell you how much I appreciate all that you and Bob and the rest of Hewitt have done for our family over the years!!! Hewitt gave me a great start homeschooling our first born 14 years ago. Then, you helped me with Joel immensely. I don't think I could have continued on without the accountability and encouragement that you all provide. It has been a LOT of work, but our first-born told Joel that Hewitt's tests and projects would prepare him for college much better than the program he had used for his own high school years. Thanks again for the services you provide and for being there when a family needs you! God bless!" Lynn Hyman
Hello! I am Martin Sector, a 17-year-old freshman at ASU East, an Aeronautical Engineering Technology major, and one of the first recipients of the ASU Tuition Waiver for home-schooled students. . . . Near the end of 7th grade, we decided I was ready to start high school the next year, and began to research our options. The option that seemed to work best for me was to enroll in a correspondence course. I was first enrolled in _______, but it was too structured for my learning style. After my freshman year, I decided to switch to Hewitt Homeschooling Resources. It was one of the best decisions I've made. Hewitt was structured so similarly to my current college classes that I hardly had to make any adjustments. In both Hewitt and college, you are given a syllabus for each course, with projects, reading assignments, and due dates. You get your projects and papers back with feedback on each, and if you have any questions you can call the teacher. . . . It is only the end of the first quarter, but I have already made many friends, and so far I am getting straight A's. I would like to present myself to you as living proof that home schoolers, if properly prepared, cannot only survive college, but that they can thrive there. (Reprinted from AFHE Newsletter)
Audrey enrolled in Trinity Online and has been placed in the middle of her sophomore year due to her varied experiences. This means she skipped 1 1/2 years of college! She will be doing a portfolio for those credits instead of taking the courses. I am so thankful that your school helped prepare her so well.Deborah Curry
I thank God every day that He led us to home school our girls. The time spent with our girls in training and teaching them is precious to both of us. Even though our girls are close in age, their needs and abilities differ. The individualized instruction they get at home with Hewitt materials allows them to grow and learn according to the way God made each of them individually. Being missionaries in Japan, we do not have the opportunity to attend curriculum fairs and home school conventions, so the personal recommendations and suggestions from the Hewitt staff are essential.Wayne, Melody, Annette, and April Hala
I appreciate all that you have done for us. I believe my children have received a very good education through you, and it shows in the comments my daughter receives from her college teachers. The one area in which I think we have benefitted the most has been in writing papers. My children know how to write them better than most of those just entering college."Pat Bendy
As far as I am concerned, my early acceptance to a prominent college speaks volumes about the great seven years of education I received at home. I am very thankful for all the excellent resources, help, and encouragement the folks at Hewitt provided me.Kathryn T. Aronsohn
Thanks for your prompt return of Ben's first quarter work. He and I both were so encouraged by his grades and your positive comments. Transition from Junior High on our own to High School via correspondence has been a big step at our house. Writing is not Ben's cup of tea, although I really enjoy his writing. . . . We had entered the Hewitt program knowing it would be a good transition to college and also that we wanted Ben to be accountable to someone other than mom. He may not like to write, but I know he is putting much more effort into these papers for you than he would have for me.
"You have been gracious in all our correspondence. I just want you to know that your encouragement was timely and needed. I truly believe that your positive feedback provides a boost to continue and to continue to work hard. . . . I love having my kids at home for school and I am grateful for your help in achieving that goal.Kris Guthrie
Thank you for your help and evaluation of Andreas work. She has learned more in this year's school experience with Hewitt than in previous years in public school or ______. I say that honestly. She has had to work hard to make up for all the lost time. When theory and application are not achieved in the earlier grades it makes it harder. Thank you.Sue Dierdorff
All things considered I have had a great experience as a homeschooler and I have Hewitt to thank. They have supported and given my family and me freedom in schooling. I don't think I could have gotten a better education anywhere. I owe my mother most of the credit though, as she has made our home such a great learning environment.Philip Coffin
