Across America: Grade 2

Inspire an Interest in the United States
Students travel across the fifty states in both time and space in 38 units. Beginning on the Eastern Seaboard, they travel from state to state to learn what life was like in the early days of each one. Subjects include Bible/character, science and health, history/geography, reading, spelling, expression skills, study/critical thinking skills, math, physical education, music, and art. All Grade-2 objectives are covered. The reader includes discussion questions and vocabulary words.

You can purchase the whole program in a pack (8064), or just the items you need. For those using a different math program, we’ve packaged the program in a No-Math Pack (8065) which substitutes Language & Miscellaneous Worksheets (2518) for the Student Workbook.

What Else Will I Need?
The State Capitols CD and Rummy Roots, referenced throughout the Teacher’s Manual, are no longer a part of the pack. They can be purchased at, though you can hear the State Capitols songs (and many of the others suggested songs) on the Internet.

How to Use the Supplements
We have created supplements so you can teach up to four grades together. The Teacher’s Manual in the Supplements for both Grade-1 (2819) and Grades 3&4 (2322) give suggestions for subject areas on grade level. Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley Mathematics and readers on grade level are part of each pack. You can use Across America for just a third or fourth grader alone, but since these are supplements, you will need the Grade-2 Teacher’s Manual.
