Hewitt uses this beautifully illustrated, four-color series in our Tell Me a Story: Grade 1, A Bee Sees and Across America: Grade-1 Supplement packs (see Related Items below). Hewitt has written an answer key which includes a daily schedule to help you use this kid-friendly program (though you won't need this if you're using one of the above-named programs since this information is part of its teacher's manual).

Each chapter includes a math story, problem-solving strategy, and problem-solving applications which draw from Dorling Kindersley publications, practice game, test readiness, and chapter and cumulative tests. “Home Connections” concisely states what is being taught and “Home Activities” suggests ways to work the concept into daily living. The topics for the twelve chapters are:
  • Chapter One: Patterns and readiness for addition and subtraction
  • Chapter Two: Understanding addition and subtraction
  • Chapter Three: Strategies for addition facts to 12
  • Chapter Four: Strategies for subtractions facts to 12
  • Chapter Five: Geometry and fractions
  • Chapter 6: Time
  • Chapter 7: Counting to 100
  • Chapter 8: Place value, data, and graphs
  • Chapter 9: Money
  • Chapter 10: Measurement and probability
  • Chapter 11: Addition and subtraction facts to 18
  • Chapter 12: Two-digit addition and subtraction
