We offer three sets of recommendations for coursework in high school. Our College Preparatory recommendations are for students who are preparing to attend college. These are the recommendations most students follow. The Honors recommendations are designed for students who have exceptional academic skills and wish to be challenged. We also offer Basic recommendations for students who struggle in one or more areas.

Nothing here is rigid. If you have a student who excels in languages arts, but is struggling in math, it is fine to choose an honors English course but Algebra ½. If your student is strong in science but struggles in language arts, they can take chemistry in grade 9 while using the Basic English syllabus for language arts. If that same student makes great progress in English, they can move up to the college prep English program in Grade 10. In each case, choose what is the best fit for your student.

Our English syllabi require one or two Lightning Literature guides per year. Go to our Lightning Literature Recommendations page and Senior High Lightning Literature page for help in choosing guides for each year.
